Pet Vaccinations

At our animal hospital, we can meet a wide range of your companion’s preventive health care needs including pet vaccinations. Vaccines help protect pets from viruses and diseases—some of which can be deadly, which is why they’re so important for dogs and cats. Town & Country Equine & Pet Hospital complies with all pet vaccination recommendations of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). We also offer vaccinations that are customized to your pet’s specific needs and lifestyle, steering away from the one-size-fits-all veterinary care. After all, no two pets are exactly alike.

Canine Vaccine Recommendations

For our canine friends, vaccinations begin at 8 weeks of age, followed by boosters at 12, and 16 weeks. The core (essential) vaccines we offer include:

  • Rabies
  • Parvovirus
  • Distemper
  • Leptospirosis
  • Adenovirus-2

After boosters at one year of age, we update core vaccines every three years in accordance with current veterinary standards. Non-core (optional) vaccines include Bordetella (kennel cough), depending on your pet’s specific needs, and are updated yearly.

Pet vaccination visits include a thorough physical examination to assess your pet’s overall health. For annual heartworm and tick detection, we use the IDEXX 4D Snap Test, a 10-minute test that screens for heartworm and three common tick-borne diseases.

Feline Vaccine Recommendations

For our feline friends, vaccinations begin at 8 weeks of age, followed by boosters at 12 and 16 weeks. The core vaccines for felines are:

  • Rabies
  • Feline distemper (FVRCP)
  • Feline leukemia (FeLV)

Following boosters at one year, feline distemper is boosted every three years, and feline leukemia is updated every two years. Our doctors also recommend FeLV (feline leukemia) and FIV (feline aids) screening for kittens. Cats can transmit some diseases to each other, so we may recommend certain non-core vaccines as well. This is especially likely if your cat may come into contact with other cats.

We’ll be happy to customize a vaccination plan and schedule to meet your pet’s specific needs. If you have questions about how we can meet your pet’s vaccination and wellness care needs here in Louisburg, please contact us. We’ll be glad to help.
